Artist Statement

Black has always been a statement of power to me, and white has been a statement of intrusion into that power. Light coming out of the dark tunnel would often symbolize a good thing, however maybe that light is ruining what could have been explored through the dark. The two most opposing colors contrasting against each other is a beautiful thing to see made into art. Two total opposites fighting for power in one image is something that draws me in, the struggle between the two. To me it can often be related to right and wrong, evil and good, and so much more. These two simple yet competing colors can bring any image to have an emotional impact for me. It draws my eye away from the focus of a piece to the struggle between the two colors. It creates a contrast that makes me question the intention of the focal point, that “gray” area that would happen if the two meshed together is lost and you're stuck with trying to figure out what to take from what is given to you. There is a passion within the art of black and white that calls out depth, contrast, and a very specific mood within art. I have always been a deep thinker that has loved to push the limits of what I understand and how I can dive father into a thought. Black and white art is something that forces people to draw a new idea, perspective, and conclusion.
