For my zine design I would like to take inspiration from the De Stijl art movement and Bauhaus. I am not a fan of many colors so, having the main theme of De Stijl be the primary colors ( and sometimes grey) speaks to me in many ways. I appreciate the reduction of form and order with mostly vertical, horizontal lines and asymmetry. Much of this movement is based on neoplasticism and the idea that there are three dimensional effects in the art while being a flat surface in art. The other aspect of this movement that I relate to is “abstraction as purification”, that simply means harmony and that primary colors and specific shapes are all you need to express your intention and emotions within art. I plan to go out to some beautiful places within my neighboring area to gather some inspiration for my shapes. I will focus on nature and the living things I surround myself with. Once I have my pictures I will then deconstruct them into simple lines and shapes. I believe the focal points of my art pieces will be cast in the color red to show importance while the rest of the image will be in black, grey, and white.
